Open Comment Thread: Test Postings

I’m opening this up for people to do test posts on. Apparently some of you are getting carriage returns in the middle of your comments that you haven’t actually entered, leaving the comment to end every few words and go to the next line, making it look rather disjointed, while others are claiming hitting enter doesn’t give a carriage return, leaving a big blob of test that can be unreadable. Others are able to leave comments normally.

I want to see if its the new Mini-MCE Editor (or Rich text editor) I’ve put in here for you commenters to use that is the culprit.. so I’d like some of you to type out a couple of paragraph, with new lines or paragraphs interspersed here or there.. to see what happens. I’d also like you to say what browser you use, as well as the version of it. That way, I can try to narrow down the problem and inform the owner of the plugin what’s going on so it can hopefully be fixed.

  • Well.. if it makes you feel any better Angelle.. I just switched to IE 7.0 on my setup (Firefox is my default choice) and what happened to you happened to me – I hit Enter and it didn’t register an Enter on the editor.. so its some IE incompatibility for sure.

UPDATE: Rich text editor Plugin author acknowledges there is a problem with IE7 and carriage returns/enter/new lines, and he’s attempting to address that issue

Scott, yes that is what happened. I am still new at this technology and terms, so I will take your word for it. I am working on learning the lingo.

Off topic, sorry. I tried to return your email Scott, from three of my addresses. (gmail, hotmail, and my ISP email) All were returned to me with the message that the address was "unknown". mail.local: unknown name: stribe
    550 <[email protected]>… User unknown (I put the x's in)
Your email doesn't like pale people? 🙂 Pale.

Alright, I am now using IE 7 typing this entry [enter]Here is a longer sentence I am typing that I will see how it goes when it does wordwrap on the input box for the long sentence [enter]Testing 1-2-3[enter]Testing 1-2-3[enter]

  • Hmm. Angelle… my stats tell me you're also using IE 7.0.

I'm presuming you tried hitting "ENTER" there a few times, and it hasn't registered as an  enter.

Interesting to read what?others are saying outside the country.?This is what the Moscow Times is reporting :?http://www.themoscowtimes.com/stories/2007/06/06/016.htmlWednesday, June 6, 2007. Polls show his approval rating at 33 percent, down seven points in two months. His government is facing allegations of torture of Afghan detainees handed over by Canadians to Afghan authorities. • I might be getting a double break because I did that on purpose 🙂

Yea.. that was probably me putting in the extra break.

I've looked at ALW's postings – he was the one getting the carriage returns inserted in his comments. It appears he's using Firefox 1.0.7… so perhaps the editor is very particular about what browsers it uses.  At any rate, the maker of this editor plugin has been here and informed me he will look into both situations.

  • I tried posting a comment on my ancient iBook. It's stretched re RAM and is running OS X and Safari 1.3.2. Every attempt to even load the blog page crashed Safari. That could be due to my overtaxed hardware. Somebody with a decent Mac/Safari setup should try it.Hope that helps, Scotty.I note that my use of the Enter key in the above comments only resulted in a single line break (in non-IE browsers) and not a double-space as you're getting in your own comments.JB

  • It would appear that Kyle from my one blogthread is having the same problem with IE 6.0 and carriage returns (or lack thereof) as you did with IE 7.0, Jimbobby.. I’ll wait to see a few more postings though.
