Some more on the GTA Prog Blog BBQ – pics.

I’ve already posted at the main Prog Blog site where you can go to see some of the pictures of the event, but I’m going to repost this picture just to prove to my NDP colleagues I really don’t despise them, just get into the occasional argument or 2 with them.

Peggy Nash, NDP MP for Parkdale High Park, Scott Tribe, Kate Holloway of Fair Vote Canada/Liberals For MMP

This is a picture of me posing with Peggy Nash, NDP MP for Parkdale – High Park, who accepted our invite to attend (Kate Holloway of Fair Vote Canada/ Liberals For MMP is sitting to the right of me).

I think the blogger group as a whole found her very engaging and very smart and very impressive. She also had the zinger of the day. We were talking politics, and when I inquired of her; “So you’re running against Gerard Kennedy?” in her riding, because I wasn’t quite sure, her instantaneous response was, “No, he’s running against me”. Every blogger within earshot, including the Liberal bloggers, laughed.

It again makes me think that its too bad that those on the “progressive” side of politics have to run against each other in the adversarial form of government we have. At best, we create a zero-sum, and at worst, we allow the Conservatives to slide up the middle in key ridings. I again believe that switching to a form of Proportional Representation is the best answer to that.

Sounded like a good time had by all. Sorry that I missed it!

The NDP exists in spite of, not because of, our current system. SMP generally encourages two-party systems.

Furthermore, it's likely that under mixed-member proportional, all of the existing parties would splinter into the factions that currently exist within them.

Good idea Scott. So Gerald should have run in a different riding. Didn't he mention that he was going to run in Manitoba?

  • (decides to withhold remark about humourless NDP'ers)

I guess you had to be there IP 🙂

I guess I'm not seeing what's funny about that–it's just true.  Don't you usually say that the challenger is the one "running against" the incumbent?

  • “Animals getting drunk…” Shades of a PB BBQ?…

hey… one of those looked a lot like The TribeMan himself… …
