Remember – the Iraqi soccer team won the Asia Cup.

Is this what the apologists for Bush define as progress or that they’re close to “winning”?

Iraq’s largest Sunni Arab political bloc announced its withdrawal from the government today, undermining efforts to seek reconciliation among the country’s rival factions, and two bombing attacks in Baghdad killed at least 67 people.

But of course, according to our Bush apologists, pointing out facts that the effort isnt going swimmingly is reserving a special place in Hell. Apparently telling the truth is a sin in their looking-glass world.

  • "It’s a good thing Chretien was in power when Bush came a-calling, and Harper wasn’t, or we’d be in 2 morass’s trying to extricate ourselves from, not just Afghanistan. Afghanistan could at least be at the time justified – Iraq certainly would not have been"

So you're in favour of pulling our troops out of Afghanistan? I have yet to see a clear statement of opinion on your part.

  • Oldschool, should rename himslef as OldFool, what a prunt.

And Scott, that is "MY" special RSVP spot in Hell!!!  Get you own 😉

  • Actually, I think its called he knew without UN authorization it wasnt the legal and moral way to go about it, and he justly declined to participate. Ever check the polls leading past that Oldschool? The Canadian public decisively supported that action, and overwhelmingly do now. It may have been Chretien's greatest moment as Prime Minister, avoiding that war.

As for the rest of the stuff…  hyperbole and rhetoric. Iraq was gone into on an error (at best) and an outright lie (at worst) about WMD… and I didnt realize China was the new justification the US was in Iraq – original though, I have to admit from you neo-con's.

Interestingly too… about Bosnia – there was mass genocide going on there.. yet all the Republicans led by Newt Gingrich in the majority at the time called it a reckless adventure with no real need to be going there, or a distraction from Clinton's scandal… yet you try to justify it as a reason for Iraq. Nice attempt at rewriting history.

The Cretch’s son-in-law was working for power corp, running a bank in France handling the funds from the Oil-for-food scam. Small wonder he didn’t want to upset the gravey train.
Why was it the 4 out of the last 5 Pime Minister worked for Power Corp???
I have seen and heard of many people in Afganistan and Iraq who are very happy to have a chance at a real life, you take the comments of one soccer player and run with it . . . .
Are Clinton’s troops still not in Bosnia? Are the Chinese not buiding the biggest military on the planet? Who do you suppose will protect you and yours in the future . . . Dion?

  • No, Bush isn’t responsible for winning, but many of you Bush cheerleaders used their nice sports feat stupefyingly as a great indicator that everything was going hunky-dory in Iraq these days.. You obviously missed the part with the Iraqi soccer tram captain saying that he feared for his life if he returned to Iraq, and then he called on the US to leave Iraq asap.

As I said, its “through the looking glass” with you neo-con Bush apologists. The greatest blunder in US foreign policy since Vietnam, and you’re all desperately trying to find any scrap of news to somehow continue rah-rahing the effort. Pathetic.

It’s a good thing Chretien was in power when Bush came a-calling, and Harper wasn’t, or we’d be in 2 morass’s trying to extricate ourselves from, not just Afghanistan. Afghanistan could at least be at the time justified – Iraq certainly would not have been

Oh . . . I see Bush is responsible for them winning???
Hey Scott, how many of the team did you talk to???
If you had, they might have told you about the abuses they suffered when Uday ran the team . . . . you are not too young to remember him are you . . . . he was one of Sadim’s useless sons.
Don’t remember you “touchey/feeley” folks talking about the Iraq soccer team then!!!
