What contradiction? The 2nd Amendment, if properly applied as written and with the same universality of the other parts of the Bill of Rights, should render such statutes unconstitutional. Also, any honest reading of the militia references in the text would make any portable weapon (arms) suitable for military or police use to be appropriate for private possession as well.

Just because they’re buying guns (whether it be in Kansas, the Deep South, or anywhere else…) doesn’t mean they’re planning to shoot the President’s motorcade with them.

Staying out of pellet gun range of Dick Cheney, however, remains sensible counsel for all members of the transition team.

also, with a president who favors a ban on such weapons, are you surprised at all that people might seek to get them ebfore they are banned? Why do you imply American southerners buy guns to shoot black people?

Hmmm, the story details gun shops in Arizona, Texas and Kansas, yet you think he should stay out of the Deep South. Any particular reason why you would try to inject a racial element to this story? I mean, aside clearly “progressive” nature such stereotypical comments would represent.
