“”
My one thought on this is: If Obama really did take the measures that some of these gun nuts fear, then all the guns they are buying would be illegal and they’d have to run them in anyhow.
“”

The last AWB did not have a surrender component-it banned (retail) sale and importation of certain items.

“”
A rather glaring contradiction in they’re afraid the 2nd Amendment is being violated, but they’re already blatantly advertising they’d break any new laws that might force to them to give up weapons that only the police or military should be in possession of.
“”

What contradiction? The 2nd Amendment, if properly applied as written and with the same universality of the other parts of the Bill of Rights, should render such statutes unconstitutional. Also, any honest reading of the militia references in the text would make any portable weapon (arms) suitable for military or police use to be appropriate for private possession as well.

I think Scott is thinking of the recent crackpot, right-winger (KKK) threats - which clearly indicated "the South".

Just because they're buying guns (whether it be in Kansas, the Deep South, or anywhere else...) doesn't mean they're planning to shoot the President's motorcade with them.

Staying out of pellet gun range of Dick Cheney, however, remains sensible counsel for all members of the transition team.

Pete is actually right, none of those states are in the "deep south"

also, with a president who favors a ban on such weapons, are you surprised at all that people might seek to get them ebfore they are banned? Why do you imply American southerners buy guns to shoot black people?

Hmmm, the story details gun shops in Arizona, Texas and Kansas, yet you think he should stay out of the Deep South. Any particular reason why you would try to inject a racial element to this story? I mean, aside clearly "progressive" nature such stereotypical comments would represent.
