The courts hand Harper and the Cons another defeat.

The Conservatives haven’t had much luck in the court system of late, and that pattern has continued:

Efforts to thwart public hearings into allegations that Canada knowingly transferred prisoners to likely torturers in Afghanistan were dealt another defeat yesterday by a federal court judge who denied the government’s application for an indefinite stay. “The last thing the government wants is military officers testifying publicly about Afghan detainees and the risk of torture,” said Paul Champ, the lawyer representing rights groups that filed the original complaint with the Military Police Complaints Commission…In asking the court for a stay, the government argued the MPCC probe would be a waste of public money should the commission ultimately be found to be acting beyond its mandate. The government said public hearings could result in damage to the reputation of military officers involved and that military secrets might spill. Madam Justice Anne Mactavish rejected all three claims, at times in language that bluntly rejected the government’s positions… Mr. Champ said “the court obviously viewed this as a tactic by the government to suppress information about a serious public issue.”

I believe Harper claimed back in 2005 or 2004 that Canadians need not worry about giving him a majority government, because the courts among other entities would keep him in check. He appears to have been correct (thankfully) in his assessment.

well well..lets all stop making war..open up the borders fire all of our armed forces and lay down our arms..

lets face it..we as a whole are a violent race..more dangerous than anything on this planet..we have the ability to bring armagedeon upon ourselves.

do you think that I want to be this close minded? Do you think that every time I see someone of a different race(and I wont name the race but we all know whom i mean) that I wonder if they are up to something no good?

I would love nothing more than for everyone is this whole world to get along but it is NOT …NOT going to happen for a very long time if ever.

SO what is the solution? My opinion is STOP immigration from those countries.
I am sorry that it may ruffle your pretty little feathers but you know what? I was born here and I used to feel safe here untill 9/11. I still do feel safe now that our boys are over there keeping them from coming here again.
I want to be able to walk down the street and say hi to everyone and not have to think the things that run through my mind since then.
We didnt start this. They did.
I know so many people that think the same way but DONT HAVE THE BALLS to speak it because they are afraid of what other might think and that they are being intolerant.
I am not that way. But once bitten twice shy.
So go ahead and feel sad. I still do when I pick up my special edition of people magazine down in my basement and read about that awefull day and then had to explain to my 6 year old boy when he brought it up and asked what it was all about. I had to wipe away his tears when I told him that evil people killed thousands just for lack of a good term “the fun of it”
I felt sad when I watched the online vidoe of Nick Berg.
I dont believe MIGHT IS RIGHT..you just assume that and in a way rightfully so because of my above post but it hasnt happened here again since 9/11 and that makes me happy.
I have tears in my eyes every time I hear about one of our soldiers coming home in a box but i feel proud also because I know that they died protecting us.

‘Are we fighting a war on terror or aren’t we? Was it or was it not
started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001
and have continually threatened to do so since?

Were people from all over the world, not brutally murdered that day,
in downtown Manhattan , across the Potomac from the nation’s capitol and in
    a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible,
burning or crushing death that day, or didn’t they?

And I’m supposed to care that a few Taliban were claiming to be
tortured by a justice system of the nation they come from and are fighting
    against in a brutal insurgency.

I’ll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents
for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I’ll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start
caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief of which is a crime punishable
    by beheading in Afghanistan .

I’ll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking
off Nick Berg’s head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed
    throat.

I’ll care when the cowardly so-called ‘insurgents’ in Afghanistan come
out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by
    hiding in mosques.

I’ll care when the mindless zealots who blows themselves up in search
of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide
    bombs.

I’ll care when the Canadian media stops pretending that their freedom
of speech on stories is more important than the lives of the soldiers on
the ground or their families waiting at home to hear about them when
    something happens.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a CANADIAN soldier roughing
up an Insurgent terrorist to obtain information, know this:

    I don’t care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not
to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank:

    I don’t care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat,
and ‘fed special’ food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining
that his holy book is being ‘mishandled,’ you can absolutely believe in
    your heart of hearts:

    I don’t care.

And oh, by the way, I’ve noticed that sometimes it’s spelled ‘Koran’
and other times ‘Quran.’ Well, Jimmy Crack Corn you guessed it,

    I don’t care!!
Only five defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

    1. Jesus Christ

    2. The Canadian Soldier.

    3. The British Soldier.

    4. The US Soldier, and

    5. The Australian Soldier

One died for your soul, the other 4 for your freedom.

      @kwittet,:
I don’t care either – about your lack of insight into anything except “might is right”.
And I don’t care to listen to your drivel
And I don’t care that you have no understanding of the thin line between “us & them”
And I don’t care that you don’t understand even the word, “universality”, let alone the principle.
But I do care that I feel sad & despairing when I know that someone like you is so uninformed, so biased, so unaware
And So, I will keep on speaking & working & taking responsibility so that finally, they don’t come for you …….(ref Neumeier)
Because an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

The parts of Canada he can’t abuse directly he attempts to use for repressive, regressive and abusive ends.
Oh for the day when integrity returns again to Canada’s parliament.
