Conservative negative ad demographic strategy.

I hope everyone had a good Victoria Day and holiday weekend. I was noticing over this long weekend that the Conservative’s main strategy of where to play these attack ads seem to be sports events and home and garden shows. The hockey playoffs got some multiple repeat airtime for these things, as did Blue Jays baseball (I’m presuming that the Conservative brain-trust figures that since the Jays are currently in first place, more people are watching them on TV). The home and garden network also had a lot of these ads running yesterday.

So, the apparent target demographic – at least from my observations – for these attack ads are sports fans and gardeners. I’m sure these are getting played on other shows as well, but they were heavily skewed on these. Perhaps that’s who the Conservatives feel that they can persuade most with these ads that being a Canadian who worked abroad makes his motives suspect, and whether he’s a “real Canadian” or not.

  • I also spied the ads during a late-night showing of Borat on Showcase.

    Apparently the Conservatives feel they can get the attention of stoned teenaged boys.

    Was Gandhi a carpet-bagger?
    In response to the sickening attack ads recently published by the Conservatives, I offer this small tidbit of information. Mohandas K. Gandhi left Indian in 1888 to study law in London after which he lived in South Africa for twenty-one years. During his time in South Africa Gandhi moved the nation and contributed significantly to the cause of the oppressed. When Gandhi returned to India after approximately 26 years he was greeted as a hero for the work he had done in the cause of justice. Even the poor and uneducated of India in the early years of the 20th century were able to look beyond their boarders and recognize that a contribution to the world by one of their own enriched all of them. Of course, as we all know, Gandhi went on to contribute incalculably to the nation of India both culturally and politically. Who were dare call this man a carpet-bagger?

    I saw the ad on the Space Network on Thursday night during, “The Dead House”. And again this morning on The Food Network during, “Cook Like A Chef”.

    Everytime we saw an ad coming on – we switched channels or went back to the yard work stuff.

    CTV really runs them a lot.

    They were also all over American Idol, Grey’s Anatomy and other big shows last week. This may speak more to your viewing habits than the ad-buy 😉

  • I couldn’t have been watching the Blue Jays very well.. must have turned my head, because I usually do not watch the commercials…how about those Blue Jays !!! The con sickos are hard up and lets hope they are not using Taxpayers money, the sneaky things.

    Hey, I’m a gardener, but I never watch the home and garden shows. Who does and in particular, who would over the key planting weekend? Maybe wanna-be gardeners.
