The Liberals will be coming back to work on January 25.

Very nice:

Liberals to return to work as scheduled Jan.25, despite Parliament shutdown

Liberal MPs and senators will return to work as scheduled in the nation’s capital later this month, even though Parliament has been suspended until early March. Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff informed his caucus during a conference call Tuesday that he expects them to report for work on Jan. 25. He told caucus members they can’t let Prime Minister Stephen Harper get away with shutting down Parliament and stifling debate.

I’m betting the other opposition parties will be returning as well, while Harper takes his extended Olympic holiday for no good reason other then to take the heat off of him.

    “Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff informed his caucus during a conference call Tuesday that he expects them to report for work on Jan. 25.”

    How lame. Ignatieff is sitting in his 1.8 million dollar home in the South of France, sipping tea and eating crumpets, and commanding his troops.

    This guy ditches Canada every single chance he gets. He is a fool and his “True Patriot” book is a load of crap which he proves every chance he gets.

      @Frank,

      FAIL.

      Well, “Frank” – lets do a little cut and paste shall we?

      How lame. HARPER is sitting in his TAXPAYER FUNDED home in OTTAWA, sipping DOUBLE DOUBLES and eating DONUTS, and commanding his CONSERVATIVE TROLLS INSTEAD OF SUPPORTING OUR troops.

      This SUPPOSED LEADER OF A G8 NATION ditches PARLIAMENT every single chance he gets. He is a fool and his HOCKEY book is a LIE which he proves every chance he OPENS HIS MOUTH.

      By the way, “Frank”, why don’t you call all Canadians who are currently taking vacations abroad traitors too.

        @bull caller,

        No, only the one’s wanting to be PM.

          @Frank,

          Well I know in his heart Stephen Harper ‘wants’ to be PM, but frankly I think he’s projecting more of a (republican) president, so generally “Frank”(&beans), I’d have to agree with you. Harper is indeed a Traitor.

          Keep Iggy bashing, that will help dear leader and the conservatives out of their incredibly bad optics. The game is now finally changing and the public is angry, but keep telling yourself Canadians don’t care. Whatever gets you through the night.

  • There WILL be protests in Vancouver… Oh yes, there will be protests. There will also be some interested stories coming out in local media during the up-coming month.

    Recent polls show BCers are the most concerned in Canada about their jobs. Harper taking an extended vacation during a recession is NOT what hard working BCers want to see…

      I hope those hard working BC’ers will boo Mr Harper or any of his ministers at any olympic event they turns up at. Maybe a chant of “Get back to work you bums” will focus not only our media but the world’s media on this sorry state of affairs.

    I would suggest that Harper attempt to duck and hide to take off the heat by using the olympics (now that he is unable to continue to hide behind the troops, blaming the ‘previous government’, or stating that nobody cares) – will ultimately backfire and here’s why:

    – The world will have its eyes on Canada from the end of January through to the end of February. At which time, if (we hope) Canadians have finally decided to wake up and fight for a proper democracy through public assembly, and continued grass roots level activity, it will be noticed and a considerable black mark for Harper himself.

    – If Harper is choosing to hang out in Vancouver, he will not only be sought after by local media with regard to his political activity, but also internationally. And lets face it folks, this is like the petulant little turd your parents made you invite to your birthday party. Harper has zero cred outside his ridiculous “base” of supporters.

    – If the current spin and deflection attempts from the conservative government and its band of supporters is any indication, they are in for some really rough times ahead. Everywhere Harper goes during the olympics there will be an elephant in the room. Its up to the canadian public to ensure he doesn’t forget that. Get informed, organize, and stop being complacent!

    Why do I think this will simply sideline and/or diffuse opposition to what Harper is doing? Given the fact that it took him a week to make a decision, I have to wonder if this move is just going to provide Harper the foil he needs to go on the attack. If he does, I’m sure Iggy will be a deer in headlights once again…
