Well done, CRUSH

CRUSH ran this ad in the Saturday March 20 edition of the Toronto Star:

CRUSH stands for “Canadians Rallying to Unseat Stephen Harper”, if you were wondering. As you can see from the ad, they have their own website, and they do also have a Facebook group. Their origins are explained at their FAQ:

CRUSH is not officially affiliated with the Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament (CAPP) Facebook group or any of its other official or unofficial, online or offline offshoot groups. Nonetheless, a number of members of CRUSH are members of CAPP and vice versa. CRUSH was formed by a group of very active CAPP members who felt that CAPP was too narrowly focused in one sense—i.e. that, at least in its name, it is focused only on the improper use of prorogation rather than on the broader pattern of what the organizers of CRUSH believe to be the anti-democratic behaviour of the Harper Government.

At the same time, while the organizers of CRUSH support and agree with most of CAPP’s activities to protest against prorogation and seek improvements to Canada’s democratic institutions, the founders of CRUSH felt that Canada would also benefit from a very action-oriented group dedicated solely to an immediate solution to the democratic problem at hand. The solution they saw was the unseating, through democratic means, of the Harper Government as soon as possible.

They have a smaller membership so far then the CAPP Facebook group, but large enough apparently to raise funds to be able to insert that ad into a national newspaper daily (and they’re looking for more donations from their grassroots members to place that ad in other dailies), and a lot more proactive then the CAPP group was or should be (in my opinion, of course).

So, I’m saying, “well done” to supporters of CRUSH, and I agree with your goals, obviously. I hope to see more of your ads in other dailies. It would be nice to see the ad(s) being run in the National Post or the SunMedia chains -that would get a lot of right-wingers riled up, which would be amusing – but perhaps it would reach some of their membership who are more rational and who are less prone to drink Conservative Kool-Aid, and get them thinking.

I find all this very interesting. It seems someone has issues with some other people from CRUSH who apparently harassed her on line, she posts, these CRUSH people come en masse and attack her credibility(kind of justifying her allegations BTW), others come on with the same issues as the first post, more attacks, ad nauseum.

If CRUSH really is as politically goal orientated as they say they should just leave those people alone, and use that space and energy to talk up your group instead. If you didn’t respond you could have used this space to further your goals. Why so determined to discredit them? When you so vehemently attack them as your defense it can be seen as a yellow flag.

From following the link to CRUSH it doesn’t look like their accusations have harmed your efforts.
BTY I also checked out your ‘accountability statement’ as well as the rest of that site and really didn’t find many answers. Just an observation.

  • canuckguy

CRUSH funding is by individual Canadians. There is no funding by special interest groups. The organization’s accountability statement is found at: http://www.unseatharper.ca/faq.php

yeah go to CRUSH or unseat Harper. they want a sugar daddy or mommy to pay for their ads.

    Got a riddle for you

How do you buy an ad in the Toronto Star and help pay for 3 others when all you raised in fundraising ( as per your own ‘thermomator’) was slightly more than $3500?

You get money from some special interest group

accountability and transparency – something Harper runs from too

  • He(eddie) is angry because last evening she was exposed as Jennifer Allen. If you look at Eden K’eper and Jennifer Allen home pages you will see a picture of Sean and a child with a snow shovel on both info pages. Now you can conclude that Sean is a bigamist or Jennifer post under the Eden K’eper name. Without mention her name last night she jumped at the bait and reamed me royally

Ya think ajay and Billy are the same person?

If you wish to come to the unseatHarper.ca website-drop in on our facebook group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=292671928599
The kind of infighting seen here does not happen there-we are all busy posting links, suggesting new ideas and offering any help we can to one another. The ladies in question were banned by group consensus because we just needed to get to work. If you want to roll up your sleeves-hop on board.

  • Stephen Harper

You’re not 18 any more my dear:

“He was one of my best friends,” Jennifer Allen, 36, said yesterday.”

CRUSH has responded to accusations and we have not and will not respond further. We have been too busy rolling up our sleeves this week and boy do we have news!:

CRUSH ads are coming out on Fri and Sat, please look for them in the following newspapers:

    1. CRUSH funded ads in the Calgary Herald (Mr. Harper’s riding) and one in the KW Record (hitting two Catch 22 ridings at once, that of Peter Braid and
    Stephen Woodworth)
    2. A locally funded initiative, an ad in the Comox Valley Echo News that targets the Catch 22 riding of John Duncan.

We have heard from our members that they would like to see some smaller, locally funded ads in our mandate and we agree. So, while CRUSH will focus on funding larger scale MSM ads, we offer design help and funding to any local initiatives. Please contact CRUSH admin to forward suggestions and requests for help including any additional funding you may need.
Thank you to all who have made this possible; we thank you from the bottom of our Canadian hearts. To everyone else-join us. We are taking on a new grassroots strategy to blanket this country with ads explaining why Mr. Harper should not be allowed to govern this great country of ours that we love so dearly.

  • Chris Kelland Friesen

Major premise: Canadians believe in democracy and in democratic traditions.

Minor premise: Stephen Harper’s actions suggest that he does not believe in democracy or in democratic traditions.

Conclusion: Candians should want Stephen Harper out.

  • Elizabeth

Linda, you may be referring to categorical syllogisms?

Hmmmm, There may be a case for CRUSH if they can offer a major premise, a minor premise and a conclusion in constructing an argument. Otherwise, the powers of deductive reasoning for most thinking people will be lost. It would be the equivalent of saying that there is an affiliation between food and CRUSH because all CRUSH members eat.

It will be interesting to get an answer to your question.

  • Linda

I like the list. But as one person mentioned, you don’t have enough room. And an ad usually requires a call to action of some kind. I ran my own business for 15 years, so I learned that through 15 years of marketing. The hard way.

As for the above statement, I was an active member of CAPP at the beginning until the rallies were over, and I think that most of the members were quite opposed to all anti-democratic behaviour, not just prorogation. So that statement is a bit misleading. Also, just by the nature of posting this CAPP/CRUSH together piece, there is an indication that there is a CAPP/CRUSH affiliation, and I am asking – what is the purpose in doing that?

    • rita

couldn’t agree with you more – I felt the same when power and politics mentioned CAPP/Crush together the evg. before the ad was placed….this ad is a CRUSH iniative and it doesn’t matter if some CAPPers donated…it was not a joint effort… while all members of CRUSH supported it NOT all members of CAPP did…only some….

  • rita

The CRUSH supporters are very good at accusing people of not being as they same….anyone click on ciaoNeocons ? It will take you to a website not a person http://www.unseatharper.ca/ strange how a website can post.

Ted states “CRUSH and its members denounce negative statements of the type posted here” and yet those members are the most negative people on CAPP …. just read their responses to Eden here….they even troll to other sites looking for ammunation to bully their many victims

And Billy statement of “Jennifer post under the Eden K’eper name. Without mention her name last night she jumped at the bait and reamed me royally.” actually you mentioned Eden’s name and suggesting she was an alias…

  • Jennifer Allen

I’ve had it with you Billy. Someone directed me here to see your comments. First off, NOT ME, but horrible to see that you treat others so poorly as well. Wrong again, I never post as anyone other than myself, not like you Bibels. Wrong times 2, and I’m very disgusted with you: That picture is NOT SEAN. That is my murdered best friend and his son. Innocent stray bullet shooting at Yonge and Bloor. The trial is on now. His name is John O’Keefe. Google it if you have the skill. You expose nothing outside your own ignorance on a fairly regular basis.

For everyone else, I’m getting really sick of being accused of being other people. I believe I am going to educate myself on how to deal with this.

  • Chris Kelland Friesen

Hear, hear, bull caller! At this point all we need is a strong and united opposition that will actually start listening to what the people are calling for.

  • bull caller

As I’ve said all along, the opposition needs to engage the people who are taking up the cause to get rid of Harper on their own. These are the people that opposition parties need to provide with a reason to show up on election day.

Also, lets not forget that if the confidence in the conservatives is lost doesn’t mean an election is required. Harper prorogued and attempted to cry “wolf” on the opposition forming a coalition last year. That tactic won’t work again. Canadians would be willing to take a coalition made up of the majority than to continue to be governed by a party that will never break the 30 odd percent glass ceiling (nor will they ever with harper or any of the other current batch of high profile people in the party)…

It is unfortunate though to see so many who like us wish to see the conservatives gone, that it is more important to in-fight rather than focus on getting a proper government, whatever that may look like and appeals to the majority of canadians. Organize, define, take action, be decisive… are you listening Libs, Greens and Dippers? (BQ too)…

    • Red Forever

      Bull Caller

      You give good advice.

Reading some of these comments makes you despair.

People, please make your points, and stop attacking other people.

      Were all adults here.

We can handle a dissenting opinion.

If you don’t like what someone is saying, argue with their statements, not them personally

      Thank You

  • Red Forever

    Yes indeed

    Well done CRUSH

Nice to see progressives coming together to try and enact some positive change.

    My kudos to you!!!

    Really like your ads

  • Nice to see a Sunday blogpost get so much ..uh.. “response”. Normally this is the slowest day of the week for blog traffic and commentary, but I see I’ve managed to stumble into the middle of a carping contest with this post 😉

  • Edie

Scott I apologise to you that my initial post invited CRUSH to come here to attack me and that I continued to engage them. I am done.

    • Ted

@Edie, At a time when people need to be coming together to protect our democracy and work for change, it is unfortunate that there are those among us who have decided to work against positive actions to that end.

CRUSH and its members denounce negative statements of the type posted here. Our mission, mandate and objectives are clearly ennunciated on our facebook page and on our website at http://www.unseatharper.ca We invite all those interested to visit our sites and to get involved in a group dedicated to positive, meaningful action.

  • Edie

hey Billy, -Jennifer, and a few others incl. Christopher White were on my friend’s list.
That picture is Jennifer’s avatar. Idiot! Does this mean I was Chris too? There was a picture of him with a video camera in shadow – maybe that was me. You have Ted Chartrand as a friend, does this mean you are him. Grow up. Just because you and some of your toxic buddies lie about who you are doesn’t mean the rest of us are just as dishonest.
I have some bikers as friends too. Guess what, I don’t ride a Harley.
I think you all just like to attack anyone who doesn’t kiss your butt because you obviously
have something to hide. What is it?
You are all a bunch of little losers who like feeling important and you can’t stand that a 18 1/2 year
old girl stood up and told you to stop bullying her. Wow, CRUSH is aptly named. Tell you what – I think I will take Mary Mary quite contrary’s advice and volunteer for the conservatives. Maybe I’ll send Dmitri or Pierre some of the saved conversations I have. They may choose to investigate your little group and see if everything is above board. Or they may want to hire you pitbulls.

  • Thanks, Scott. Your support is greatly appreciated. As you can see (sorry about your blog getting hijacked), CRUSH has had some rather vicious detractors from time to time, but we persevered and were able to take this step in the journey. But there is much more to do.

Now, it’s onward and upward to getting our message of the anti-democratic nature of the Harper Government out to a broader audience. With your help, and the help of thousands of others, we will move forward. Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!

  • Pamela Allard

Thank you for the recognition and support of our goals Scott. We very much appreciate it.

  • Billy Nobels

Edie is angry because last evening she was exposed as Jennifer Allen. If you look at Eden K’eper and Jennifer Allen home pages you will see a picture of Sean and a child with a snow shovel on both info pages. Now you can conclude that Sean is a bigamist or Jennifer post under the Eden K’eper name. Without mention her name last night she jumped at the bait and reamed me royally. Claiming to never ever use another name and doing it all the while. This smacks far more like the hypocrisy of the Harpercons then us acting as bullies? Trying to harm us with these insane attacks is beneath contempt. Good to see so many recognize what this is.

  • Often attributed to Gandhi:
First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win. We are making inroads, gathering progressives together to roll up their sleeves and work to get something done and, well, they are fighting us. Wow-does this mean that we will soon win? Can’t wait. Oh CAN-ada!!

  • Edie

let’s see – Ted is one of those who also post as liberty Freedom, Mary is one of his sycophants. I have no ilk, no hidden agenda, just had a desire to get involved in changing our government. I have yet to vote in any election as I wasn’t of voting age in the last one. I was told that I could learn about politics as a member of CAPP and my friend was right. Those CRUSH members who are disparanging me here have shown me just how dirty politics is. For those who wish to get out the youth vote they have a funny way of doing it. And Mary, since I see you and your group as being as vicious as Harper, why do you oppose him?

Keep up the cyber bullying tactics that you are all so good at.

    • Edie, thousands of folks have joined CRUSH and the response from the ad has been great yet you seem to want to insult us at every opportunity. This feels more like a personal vendetta than anything else. Calling us cyber bullies is wrong and spiteful and a waste of time. Please give it a rest. Do you have a constructive idea toward holding Harper to account and getting the word out? That I would listen to.

  • Interesting ad. My only issue is that the space afforded couldn’t include all the negative actions taken by Harper — isotopes, flights to Tim Hortons, taxing income trusts and raising payroll taxes, HST… Truly, if the money is available, his record will keep on giving.

    • We had hoped to engage folks to come to the website and see further proof of Harper’s shananigans, like the ones you mentioned above. http://www.unseatharper.ca. If you’d like to post there are blogs and forums for that and we’d be grateful for your additions.

      Thanks,

      Erik

    • Ted

@burlivespipe, We are not a “one ad” campaign. There will be other ads, and, as you say, Harper’s record just keeps on giving. Watch for us.

  • Edie

Yes Crush is an offshoot of CAPP and yes they did place an anti Harper ad. But they are also populated by cyberbullies who act in the same manner as Harper and his current conservatives. They threatened, vilify and stifle anyone who doesn’t loudly support them or even if all you are guilty of is being a friend of someone they don’t like.

    • Pamela Allard

      @Edie,

Edie is the name or pseudonym of one of a very small number of CAPP members who have vilified CRUSH and its goals from the outset; there have been times when members of CRUSH have struck back at their negative comments and constant carping, and I suppose this is what is meant by “cyberbullies”, which is ludicrous. As a member of both CAPP and CRUSH almost from the beginning I would hope that all members could contribute constructively to the discussion and focus on our common goals.

      • Edie

Pamela Allard said Edie is the name or pseudonym of one of a very small number of CAPP members who have vilified CRUSH.
I am not a pseudonym – I am a real person who officially joined CAPP a few weeks ago to learn about our government and what we can do to improve it. I was targeted by CRUSH because I friended some people they don’t like. There have been numerous accusations by members of CRUSH concerning false identities. This is very funny since so many of them have those like Liberty Freeman one of the so-called administrators of CRUSH. Funny how a non-existant person, invented only to open a facebook group, can have friends on ‘his’ facebook page. In the short time I was a member of CAPP I witnessed numerous attacks against anyone who did not support CRUSH. These attacks are exactly the same as those committed by Stephen Harper against his detractors.
The few rabid CRUSH members are doing a great job of alienating people and giving a black eye to the efforts of the many CAPP and CRUSH members who really want permanent change.

        • Keep going Edie, I don’t think you’re finished…rants like this are usually a storm, they begin slow, build, peak and then subside…go for it, get it out of your system so that new room can open up for peace and community…go for it, we won’t take it personally.

    • @Edie, Wow Edie-Let’s hope that Mr. Harper sends you that tax refund for all the damage you have tried to do to CAPP and CRUSH-this and oh-the blog about the CAPP creator. More attempts at damaging the progressives might even earn you a senate seat…

    • Ted

@Edie, I think it’s time for “Edie” and her ilk to grow up. These comments are nothing more than a personal vendetta being carried out by a small clique. They could’t get away with it on the facebook groups (got themselves banned) so now they are branching out to other non-facebook sites. Rather than crap on the hard work of others, they would be well advised to go do something constructive.
