A prelude blogpost

I thought I’d put up a brief blogpost this afternoon, as there will be a more significant blogpost later after 4 pm EDT – a bit of a prelude in itself, which is all I’ll say at the moment about that.

Somethings catching my attention today:

-When you’re in a minority government situation, and you’re trying to pass legislation which is not of the non-confidence variety, calling critics of the proposed bill “radical extremists”, as James Moore called those who oppose the government’s copyright bill, is an extremely unhelpful and unproductive way of advancing debate on the issue. (Trying to deny you made the remark later, only to be exposed by a Youtube video as having said that remark, is also pretty stupid).

– The latest Ekos poll released today shows that Liberals are gaining slightly nationally, but now lead BC after an astounding 10 point jump. I’m betting Iggy’s oil tanker ban announcement had a lot to do with that. Yes, it’s only one poll by one pollster, but it’s encouraging.

The margin of error in BC and everywhere but Ontario and Quebec (I think) are huge and so I wouldn’t get too excited about polls yet, especially the huge jump in BC (which doesn’t make any sense to me – HST is the hotbutton issue and tankers not a vote mover).

But I would be encouraged by the slight and consistent growth trend, and I would be worried (if I was a Conservative) by the definite and consistent decline trend not just with party support numbers but with “direction of the government” numbers.

I would attribute the numbers to Canadians perception of the leaders performances in the last few weeks, especially over the billion dollar boondoggle and pork machine.
