More stupidity revealed on Census changes

We find out today that 25 million of the 30 million extra dollars that the Conservatives are spending on making the mandatory longform census a voluntary survey is actually going to be used to explain to potentially confused people how they screwed the census up because of their ideological idiocy on the census. Some of the background to that is revealed by this Canadian Press report, albeit from the Conservatives insider(s) point of view (no surprise either that the PM is solely responsible for this debacle).

The only surprise to me is how Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz managed to convince his boss that farmers should continue to suffer under the yoke of census tyranny.

This is not the end of this discussion, despite Conservative insiders and strategists claiming otherwise. More to come on that within the next week or 2 (and more to come in the fall when Parliament resumes).

People should keep an eye on this: it smacks to me of another Adscam in the making.

As in: wanna bet Quebecor / Sun Media get a disproportionate amount of those new $25-M advertising contracts to put out the fires that are tearing down StatCan & the Census that they were only too happy to help ignite?

That’s easy, Scott. The farm vote is part of Harper’s coalition. The government wants to keep the money flowing to that sector and keep the coalition together. In order for that to happen in an efficient way, the government needs reliable data. Simple.
