Buh Bye Vic

One of the better Mondays I’ve had of late, after hearing good ole’ Vic Toews has resigned/retired:

Vic Toews, the gruff, mustachioed minister who was the face of the Conservative government’s tough-on-crime agenda through federal cabinet postings in public safety and justice, has cleared the way for a newcomer to the task…He formally announced Monday he is stepping down as Public Safety Minister from Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cabinet. He is also stepping aside as MP for the Manitoba riding of Provencher.

I could comment further, but I won’t:  the old adage, “If you can’t say anything nice about someone, don’t say it”, applies here.

I will say this however: there’s not much point in people celebrating his departure too much , as the replacement will likely be not much better. That would go for the new Minister of the Environment as well, if Peter Kent does get replaced, or any of the other Cabinet Ministers that may get shuffled/removed or retire.

This is a hard-line Conservative ideology that is in place with this government; the Ministers take their cues from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Prime Minister like well-trained seals or parrots do, and the ideology won’t change for the next 2 years because of a cabinet shuffle putting in some new faces.

The way to improve things is to vote in a new government of a different political party. I’d prefer Liberal of course, but I’d tolerate/take the NDP over this lot as well.

EDIT: If you want to see someone who doesn’t follow the “if you don’t have anything nice to say adage..”, check out The Mound of Sound. He’s rather to the point 😉

I have no problem agreeing with “The Mound of Sounds” assessment. I would also like to add that now Vic will have more time to spend with his babysitter

It is a shame that he is leaving. His policies on justice have finally recognized the lives of so many victims who have gone through the system. So many people who were guilty of a crime have been punished way below what they deserve. So many victims have been denied justice and denied reasonable access to restitution. What Toews did with Omar Khadr is absolutely justified. This terrorist was guilty of a crime that he confessed to and was given every deference by bleeding hearts. This terrorist and his ilk have destroyed many a family. One of the questionable things that Towes has done for Omar was allow him to return to his Canada where he can someday be reunited with his terrorist family. Even then Kadr’s victims and their families will never be the same. This is not how the government of a free and democratic country should treat their citizens.

I see you didn’t vote for him? Well I hope you know that showing such concern for a stranger’s sex life is f*****! And you think they are not Conservative! Fool you once, shame on you…..fool you twice….huh…..so you got fooled twice………Answer? Omar and his family are so good………….YET THEY ARE SELF ADMITTEDLY AN “AL-QUAEDA FAMILY?

I’m glad this clown is leaving. His policies on justice have destroyed the lives of so many people who have gone through the system. So many people accused of a crime have been punished way beyond what they deserve. So many accused have been denied a fair trial and denied reasonable access to legal aid. What Toews allowed to happen to Omar Khadr is absolutely horrible. This child was falsely accused of a crime, tortured into giving a confession and denied access to legal council. This child was also denied access to his family. the only good thing that Towes has done for Omar was allow him to return to his Canada where he can someday be reunited with his family. Even then Omar and his family will never be the same. This is not how the government of a free and democratic country should treat their citizens.
