Gritgirl on the Harper Senate appointments.

Gritgirl strikes on the Harpocrisy of these new Conservative Senate appointments – bringing the total to 27 in less then a calendar year.

Look, I’ll be the first to admit the Liberals aren’t exactly pious when it comes to lecturing other party’s on their PM making patronage appointments to the Senate. The difference is that Harper has said ad nauseum the past 13 years he would never do this. Yet, he’s now made 27 Senate appointments of his Conservative cronies in less then a year. As Gritgirl points out, this is the LARGEST ever amount of appointments in a single year by any Canadian Prime Minister.

Gritgirl updates her original video – “The Job Losses Continue”

Related to the prior blogpost story, Gritgirl has come out with an update to the original video she did – an update made unfortunately necessary with today’s announced job losses that now are disappearing at the rate of the 1982 recession:

This is Harpernomics, to use a phrase from a few months ago.

(PS – I think it high time the Harper government stop resisting pressure to loosen the EI requirement eligibility, make it a bit more generous to help all these people losing their jobs, and stop insulting people when they say such measures are “paying people to not work”.)

As predicted, Jim Flaherty writes Gritgirl’s newest video.

Our sometimes furious Finance minister couldn’t have handed Gritgirl better material on a silver platter if he’d tried, as I predicted a couple of blogposts ago:

Love the music!

Gritgirl’s newest & latest vid: “Where’s Stephen?”

Gritgirl is on the ball today:

This is of course in reaction to the story that broke this AM that the PM was late for his photo op with the G19 G-20. The BBC has reported it was because he was taking a bathroom break, while the PMO’s office claims it was because he was reviewing important details of the meeting.

Heck, maybe he was doing both.

UPDATE: I know Harper wants to get himself and Canada multiple world news coverage, but I’m not sure whether a debate over why he was late for a scheduled photo-op is exactly what he had in mind.

Gritgirl strikes again: “Different Tory, same old story”

A well-timed new video release from Gritgirl with Brian Mulroney back in the news:

This video is well done showing the similarities of Harper vs Mulroney vis-a-vis the economy and how they’ve handled the recessions in each of their time frame as Prime Minister (or mishandled it/dismissed it, as it were). The only quibble I’d have with her description of this video is that I don’t consider the modern day incarnation of the current Conservative Party to be at all compatible with the nickname “Tory” to describe any of Harper and his bunch. That nickname died when MacKay sold out the Progressive Conservatives to the Alliance.

Gritgirl’s latest video released today

It’s titled, “The Harper Conservatives Massive Deficit”

UPDATE: By the way, the point of this video (which is in the video at the end) is not that the Conservatives are going to run a deficit, or even a bigger deficit then they forecasted. It’s that not so long ago, they were rejecting we’d be going into deficit. This video points out that Harper was still standing up in Parliament as he did in this clip, and telling Canadians there will be a surplus, when everyone else was thinking a deficit was unavoidable. As the clip shows, that was November 27, 2008.
