A US election prediction

Hardly going on a limb here, I don’t think.. but let me just say that unless something drastic happens (i.e Obama somehow does a disastrous debate or 2), I think Obama is cruising to re-election. He may not win the national popular vote by much, and he may not win as many electoral college votes as he did in 2008, but in the swing states that matter, he will win more then enough it appears, and in some cases win by good margins. Mitt Romney can’t seem to go a week without putting his foot in his mouth; he at times has proceeded to put both feet in his mouth […]

47 %’ers

There’s a big hubbub in the US over the leaked Mitt Romney tape from a private fundraiser earlier this year, where he disparages 47% of the US people who support Obama as being dependent on handouts, etc. He’ taking yet more flak over it.

Personally, I think it’s good this was released. Now, everyone sees Romney for what he is and how he would act if President, (not just wondering what he’d be like, since he’s tried to be as opaque and shape-shifter like as possible) and it will give the far-right wingers – who’ve all been applauding this by the way and agreeing with it-, a chance to see […]

The Clint Eastwood Speech at the RNC figured out.

If you follow politics and more specifically follow American Politics.. you know the talk lately has been the quirky offbeat speech that actor Clint Eastwood gave at the Republican National Convention – specifically addressing an empty chair pretending President Obama was sitting there while attempting to go “Dirty Harry” on him.

I think I see the method to Clint’s madness though. All I’ve seen since that appearance are the ads/commercials for his latest film “CurveBall” in a couple of weeks, about a baseball scout slowly losing his ability as he ages.

If you think about it, this was perfect publicity: put forward a uh, “attention-getting” speech at the RNC, […]

US Politics – Mitt Romney chooses Paul Ryan as his VP candidate. Democrats applaud

So it’s official, Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee, has chosen US Congressman Paul Ryan as his Vice-Presidential running mate.

You don’t know much about Paul Ryan? He’s viewed as an ideological right-wing Congressman, who would be supported by those folks known as the Tea Party faction in the US. How ideological is he? One of his pet projects is to privatize US Social Security. He proposed to privatize US Social Security in 2005, and the George Bush administration rejected his plan. When a Republican like Bush is rejecting your plan as being too radical, you know you’re way out there on the fringe – which is exactly why the Tea […]
